Nicosia, October 16, 2026 (TAK): The District Court of Kyrenia has ordered nine suspects arrested in relation to the sinking of a passenger ship that killed 27 people and left one person still missing to be held in custody for seven more days.
The suspects are facing charges of “causing death through negligence and carelessness.”
During today’s hearing, the 12-day audio recordings on the Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) were played. Giving an explanation at the hearing, Deputy Inspector Mehmet Mannaş said the investigation into how the VDR was stopped on August 28 was still ongoing.
